Basic Essentials For Staging A Musical
To ensure that you can stage your musical successfully, here is a list of the essential things you will need:
Your musical of choice
Licensing (permission) and materials for said musical (see
Music Theatre International
, or similar)
A director, and likely a choreographer
Other production staff if possible
A cast of 10+ people
A large room to rehearse in
Portable speakers and a music player
A venue for performances (needs to have a stage with rooms behind it)
Insurance (if renting a venue, you'll likely need special event coverage of at least $1,000,000)
A physical flyer and online marketing
Auditions or alternative process for choosing who will play each role
Three week minimum for rehearsals, ideally more like like six to eight
Tech Week in your performance venue
Volunteers: as many as possible
Clear directions for said volunteers
Paperwork for your performers/volunteers/staff to sign (at least a liability/media waiver)
$1,000 minimum for costumes, unless performers wear their own clothes
At least 10 wireless microphone systems (see

) and/OR
1-3 floor microphones for the front of the stage (see

)
A
sound board
Amplifiers (speakers) so the performers and audience can hear
Cue sheets so the cast, staff, and volunteers know when to do things during the performances
Something to set the scene for the musical. It can be your regular interior, or you can use scenery
